Preceding Memorial Day one year, the following item appeared on page one of the Tulsa Tribune: "The Tribune requests that persons who intend to mix liquor with gasoline in Memorial Day celebrations kindly leave typed obituaries and photographs or one-column cuts with the city editor before beginning the day's observance. A visitor from across the mountain leaned on the rail fence, watching his old friend plow. "I don't like to butt in," he finally said, "but you could save yourself a lot of work by saying 'gee' and 'haw' to that mule instead of just tuggin' on them lines." Another liked the American Standard Version best because it is more literal and comes nearer to the original Hebrew and Greek. The other three expressed surprise. They wondered what he was driving at. "Yes," he replied, "Mother translated the Bible into everyday life, and it was the most convincing translation I ever saw." —Emergency Post

A six-year-old boy, separated from his mother in a supermarket, began to call frantically for "Martha! Martha! Martha!" That was his mother's name and she came running to him quickly. "But, honey," she admonished, "you shouldn't call me 'Martha', I'm 'Mother' to you." "Yes, I know," he answered, "but this store is full of mothers."
