Civil Air Patrol, the civilian auxiliary of the Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with over 60,000 members nationwide. It is congressionally chartered with three missions: emergency services, aerospace education and cadet programs. Virginia Wing, headquartered in Richmond, consists of 27 subordinate units all throughout the Commonwealth. CAP offers a cadet program for youth 12-18 years old and an adult program for pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and cadet mentors.
