AHS Breeder's Seminar participants enjoyed a full schedule yesterday, immersed in lectures on bloodlines and breeding values, an extensive look at free jumping, and an in-depth segment on judging the mare performance test. That evening, participants had the opportunity to socialize a bit at a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception and enjoy a special presentation: The progression of the dressage horse up the levels (4 year to 7 years). The seminar drew to a close today with a morning segment on young horse keeping, handling and early backing, followed by a wrap-up by Dr. Christmann. We hope all the participants enjoyed their seminar experience and carry home with them valuable information to benefit their breeding and training programs! 2017 AHS University Breeder's Seminar, morning lecture at Hilltop Farm. Dr. Ludwig Christmann, Hannoveraner Verband’s Director of International Affairs, Development and Education, discussed the German studbooks and the breeding approach for improving and refining the Hanoverian. He used as an example the Jumper Breeding Program (PHS) which focuses on horses with a genetic predisposition for jumping. He credited the program with improving the quality and quantity of Hanoverians in show jumping.

First morning of the 2017 AHS University Breeder's Seminar! Although everyone was a bit worried about news of the giant blizzard charging through New England, presenters and participants instead enjoyed bright sunshine this morning and a postcard winter view of Hilltop Farms for the first session of the Hanoverian breeding seminar. More to come... (Photo courtesy of Rebecca Neff, www.rebeccaneffphotography.com)
