In the mid-1930's under the Works Project Administration and with the guidance of the Home Demonstration Clubs of Saluda County, a library service was started. In its infancy, the Library was a book collection housed in a truck with visited the outlying areas of the County. Combination of funds from both Newberry and Saluda Counties and the State Library Board created the Regional Library in 1948. The Saluda Branch Library was housed for many years in a small room at Town Hall. It was then moved into crowded quarters in a store building on North Main Street. On August 11, 1975, , the Library was moved into the old County Jail on South Main Street. The Library still resides in this proud historic building.
