Citizen Publishing was established 100 years ago on July 20, 1912 by Michael Janosov as publisher and printer of a Slovak language newspaper. In 1922 Michael’s younger brother John assumed operational and managerial responsibilities of the company and initiated an expansion of the business. John Janosov was the patriarch of the company and he built a company based on quality and fairness.
Under John’s leadership the newspaper, Slovensky Obcan (The Slovak Citizen) began to publish weekly and served the Slovak speaking people of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Luzerne, Schuylkill, and Carbon counties. The company also operated as a commercial printer, serving the business community of the greater Hazleton Area.
Today Citizen Publishing Company provides the greater Hazleton Area and Northeastern PA business and professional community with quality graphic and printing services utilizing both traditional techniques and the latest in digital technology. Offering both general commercial printing and marketing approaches which take advantage of the opportunities of print, Citizen Publishing Company continues a tradition which began over 100 years ago.
