Virginia Union University was formed by the merger of four schools: Richmond Theological Institute, Wayland Seminary, Hartshorn Memorial College and Storer College were formed into a true “union”
Virginia Union University is accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Virginia Union University currently has a population of about 1700 students.

* Virginia Union has won four NCAA Division II National Basketball Championships. Three for the men’s team in 1980, 1992 and 2005; and one for the women’s team in 1983. * The men’s team has also been to the Division II "Final Four" seven times (1980, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998, 2005, 2006) * The men’s basketball team has won the CIAA Championship a record 17 times.
