The New Bedford Whaling Museum is world's most comprehensive museum devoted to the global story of whales, whaling and the cultural history of the region. A cornerstone attraction within New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park and a Park partner, the Museum is located at 18 Johnny Cake Hill in the heart of the city's historic downtown. The museum’s 20 galleries of history, science, and art exhibits include five whale skeletons and the world’s largest ship model, Lagoda, which visitors may climb aboard. The Museum’s collections number in excess of 750,000 items, including the world’s largest collections of scrimshaw, whaling logbooks and journals. The Museum Store carries a large inventory of books on maritime, whaling, and local history topics, as well as unique gifts related to the collection. Wheelchair accessible. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
