The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City is the oldest Humane Society in the greater Kansas City -- serving pets and their people since 1912. The shelter became the first no-kill shelter in the area (1994) and in 2009 helped create the first no-kill county in the area (Wyandotte).
In addition to our adoption services, we provide preventative vet care for 15,000+ pets and nearly 6,000 spay/neuter services each year. Our vet and spay/neuter services target low and fixed income pet owners that would normally not provide vet care due to financial hardship.
We strongly believe in the importance of educating our local children on how to be responsible and compassionate pet owners. Our humane educator educates more than 3,800 children each year on these important topics including how to approach unfamilar animals.
The Humane Society is funded 100% by local donations. We do not received funding from The Humane Society of the United States. We are a private, not-for-profit 501c3 organization. To learn more about the organization visit
