Baldwin Fire Department shared City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department's photo.
It is with deep regret that the City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department announces the passing of Ronald Rant, Ronnie as he was affectionately called, served as a member of the department for 46 years. During this time, he served as Captain of Hook and Ladder Company#1 in 1977. Ronnie was also a member of the Hook and Ladder tournament team. Ronnie was born on June 8th, 1943 and joined the Glen Cove Fire Department in 1971. He served with distinction particularly as it relates to training new members on the mechanics of driving the department’s ladder truck, 5211. As a licensed plumber, he was often the first on the scene for calls involving gas emergencies and water leaks. Ronnie was a true leader that loved his family, his friends and the community of Glen Cove. His service in the Glen Cove Fire Department was a source of pride. Despite retiring to Florida and upstate NY, Ronnie maintained contact with his Glen Cove Fire Department family and came by to visit as often as possible. Ronnie was an avid fisherman, hunter and a great storyteller. Apart from his service in the department, Ronnie worked at his business, Rant Plumbing as well as the St. Christopher of Otillie charity organization. When most people think of Ronnie they think of his affable nature, honest opinions and hearty laugh. Ronnie will also be remembered as a fearless firefighter that valued service to his community. Ronnie will be sorely missed by his brothers and sisters in the fire service. Ronnie is survived by his wife Patricia and sons David, Kevin and Kenneth. He was pre-deceased by his son Craig.
