Capuchin Youth Ministries

The Capuchin Franciscans are one of the largest religious orders in the Catholic Church. There are approximately 10,000 Capuchins ministering throughout the world, working in more than 100 countries.

The Capuchins have been ministering in the United States since the 1850's. When Frs. Bonaventure Frey and Francis Haas arrived from Switzerland, they traveled to Wisconsin. There they founded the Province of St. Joseph, which grew rapidly to cover not only the midwest, but much of the East Coast as well.

In 1952, the Province of St. Mary was established as a separate jurisdiction. Stretching from Maine to New York, our province is blessed to include areas like Boston and New York City. We have more than 160 friars working in 5 states in the northeastern United States, and in countries around the world. We also have 15 men in formation, young men who are currently studying to become the future leaders of the Church.

The Capuchin Franciscans of the Province of St. Mary are involved in a wide variety of ministries, both here in the US and around the world. The needs of the poor and the demands of justice shape our every ministerial endeavor. We attempt to promote the equality of all people within our fraternity, in the churches dedicated to the Gospel of Christ, and in the larger world.
