Bankers Insurance LLC with the January takeover: No doubt you’ve heard that recently sensitive information on 143 million Americans was exposed due to a data breach at Equifax. But we usually don’t hear about the thousands of other breaches that take place in smaller companies throughout the year. If your business stores information on employees, clients, suppliers, or vendors – whether on paper or electronically – we encourage you to develop a plan to protect yourself. Common Risks - Smart phones: Email and text on mobile devices is super-convenient. But should your phone be stolen and/or hacked, most of us have sensitive information residing in our inbox. - Laptops: Like cell phones, most laptops are packed with information hackers crave. Laptops from cars and businesses are prime targets for thieves. Many laptops also contain a means to access other business resources, putting your entire network under threat. - Paper Files: Yes, paper files are still a ripe target and, in some ways, easier to access that digital. - Social Engineering: These attacks are wildly successful and work by tricking an employee into clicking on something they think is legitimate, when in fact it exposes their business computer or network to a hack. Below are resources you may find helpful when planning how to protect sensitive information. - Equifax’s Cybersecurity Incident Notice and Important Consumer Information https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/ - FBI’s Cyber Crime Page: http://bit.ly/29Q5hJz - What is Social Engineering? http://bit.ly/2cdYuYZ - Creating a Cyber Risk Management Program for Your Business: http://bit.ly/2EorM1L

Snowed in on the east coast? Need to report an insurance claim? Our clients can submit claims by phone or online. Referece https://www.bankersinsurance.net/service/claims/ for instructions. Stay warm and stay safe! Below is a road report, posted by our office on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, on behalf of the local chamber of commerce:
David McCaleb with Bankers Insurance LLC with the January Takeover: How is everyone handling the #snowpocalypse? Having just made it into work today, my suggestion is to stay at home. I get it - business needs to be open. If the door is closed, we're losing money. But the roads around here are still risky. Here's my unsolicited, unprofessional road report: Rt 13 is passable down here in Exmore, the middle of the Eastern Shore. But it is just a bunch of packed snow and ice. Side roads are pretty bad. My vehicle's 4wd works well and it struggled to not get stuck on the side roads. Anyone care to comment on how the roads are farther up and down the counties? Below is a good article on winter driving. Having spent many snowy winters in the glorious Colorado Rockies myself, the lesson I learned on snow/ice is to simply drive slow, but don't stop moving...it's kind of become my life's philosophy. https://www.travelers.com/resources/auto/safe-driving/the-science-behind-winter-driving.aspx
Ever wonder what causes black ice, how snow tires work or what causes hydroplaning? Learn the science behind some common winter driving conditions to help stay safe on the road.

Bankers Insurance LLC with the January Takeover: With temperatures forecasted to drop into single digits here on the Eastern Shore by the end of the week, risk to your business property goes up. Frozen pipes are the leading cause of insurance claims during cold weather, but are easily avoidable. Below is an article I found particularly helpful on the topic. Stay warm!
