The Breese Journal newspaper has been around since 1921. Erwin J. Mahlandt purchased it on May 5, 1925. He was 21 years old. Erwin's son Jerry became a partner in the 50's and the circulation grew to over 5,000. The family involvement continued when Jerry's sons joined the firm. Steve in 1977 and Dave in 1982. Today, the Breese Journal and Publishing Company employs over 125 people in the various departments. The third-generation owners have realized the importance of using the Journal's resources to their fullest capabilities. In keeping with the progress of the past, the fourth generation sees potential in providing your local news, sports and entertainment online as well as on the newsstands.
