Avery Ballet

Lisa Snape Avery founded Avery Ballet in 1995. The mission of Avery Ballet is to give students the opportunity to study the art of ballet in a dedicated, professional atmosphere and to provide a solid foundation from which to develop not only as an artist but also as an individual.

Each dancer is trained in Classical Ballet in a supportive environment. As the young dancer gains proficiency and confidence, greater emphasis is placed on artistry and performance quality.

Ms. Avery’s emphasis is on developing the dancer to have pure technique, musicality, and artistic maturity. The dancer is encouraged to grow as an artist who is confident, well rounded, and appreciative of the arts. The atmosphere in class is one of encouragement, growth, and acceptance of individuality. Preparing the dancer to meet the challenges of the future, whether as an artist or in another career, is a primary focus. Please read our student testimonials.

The dancer is given the opportunity to work with guest teachers and choreographers, in addition to their training with Ms. Avery and the Avery Ballet resident faculty. The experience of working with these artists provides the student with diverse training and choreography in both the classical and contemporary repertoire. It is through exposure and experience that an artist will grow. Dancers are encouraged to study various forms of dance at the school, as well as to experiment with choreographing. Interests in teaching and choreography are encouraged.

The school offers classes for the student who wishes to dance for health, self-enrichment, or vocation. Classes emphasize overall body conditioning and encourage an aesthetic appreciation of dance and its related arts. The focus of training is on the excellence and joy of dance at each level of achievement.

The opportunity that Avery Ballet provides for the dancer is unique. The artistry the dancers show in performance has been called "exquisite."
