Camp Ramah in the Poconos is a total experience whose impact lasts well beyond the summer. Ramah is friendship and community. Our campers develop skills and leadership, life-long friendships and a Jewish consciousness that enables them to become active contributing members of their families and home communities.
Individualism is nurtured through close guidance and supervision. Our staff of experts encourage campers to choose from a wide range of different offerings each summer in order to gain skills and talent. Sport choices include basketball, baseball, floor hockey, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, tennis and
Special sports programs include inter-camp games, sports marathon, Ramah Tennis Open and Maccabiah. Campers are also exposed to cultural arts through studio arts, photography, woodworking, radio, dance and drama. Plays and other camp-wide cultural programs are performed throughout the summer.
Basic outdoor living skills are taught in camp through age appropriate experiences culminating in backpacking and overnight hikes and canoe trips. Ecology, the Jewish connection to nature, and camping skills are integrated with group building and personal achievement challenges.
Our modern pool and beautiful lake provide the perfect setting for Red Cross certification, and instruction in boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing.
Study of Hebrew language and Jewish texts are part of the every day life at camp. Qualified teachers work within the informal camp setting to provide interactive experiences for the campers. Hebrew, for most campers, becomes a natural part of their daily language through songs, routine phrases and visual materials. Shabbat, prayer, and ritual observance assume a new dimension when they have a setting of natural beauty and are shared creatively with friends. Israel comes alive for our campers through music, dance and personal contact with Israeli staff.
Camp Ramah in the Poconos, accredited by the American Camping Association, is located in the scenic mountain region of Wayne County in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The natural beauty of the Poconos provides an ideal setting for a summer camping experience.
Campers are grouped according to grade, in cabins that are equipped with bunk beds, shelf space for each camper, closets and indoor bathroom facilities.
