Strake Jesuit was founded in 1960 by the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus, a religious order of priests and brothers also known as the Jesuits. The Jesuits came to what was then far southwest Houston to found an institution that would teach and shape young men to live and work for the greater glory of God. Strake Jesuit is a private, all boys college preparatory school for grades 9 to 12 that serves a community of young men committed to excellence.
