Harnett County Government added 9 new photos.
Harnett County leaders past and present gathered in front of the Harnett County Courthouse in Lillington Monday to celebrate making the final payment on the facility with a note burning ceremony. Since the courthouse opened in 2002, it has become an iconic symbol of the county. Please join us in celebrating this historic milestone.

The Harnett County Board of Commissioners have adopted a resolution to cancel their July 3 regular meeting. The next regular meeting of the Board will be Monday, July 17 at 7 p.m.

The Harnett County Arts Council will hold a workshop for anyone interested in applying for a Grassroots Arts Program Subgrant for the upcoming fiscal year. The workshop will be held this Wednesday, June 21 at 6 p.m. in the Harnett County Public Library at 601 South Main Street, Lillington. The purpose of the workshop is to assist potential applicants with filling out the subgrant application. Applicants are encouraged to attend. The deadline to apply for a Grassroots Arts Program Subgrant has been extended until June 30, 2017. The subgrants are provided by the North Carolina Arts Council to organizations in Harnett County through the Harnett County Arts Council. In 2016-17, Harnett County received more than $36,000 in grant funding which funded arts programming across Harnett County in the form of plays, concerts, school programs, festivals and more. The Harnett County Board of Commissioners will meet Monday, June 19 at 7 p.m. in the County Administration Building at 102 East Front Street, Lillington. The meeting will include public hearings on several items including the County's proposed 2017-18 budget and proposed economic development appropriations for the coming fiscal year. Employees with the Harnett County Department of Social Services are wearing purple today to raise awareness for Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Each year, an estimated one in ten older Americans are victims of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. In Harnett County, there were 183 reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation last year. To report suspected abuse of an elderly or disabled person, contact Harnett County Social Services at (910) 814-6640.


A Tornado Watch has been issued for numerous counties in North Carolina including Harnett County until midnight tonight.


Wire Road is closed near McLean Chapel Church Road due to a culvert failure. The road is expected to be closed through June 16 at 5 p.m.


A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of central North Carolina (including Harnett County) through late Wednesday night.


According to NCDOT, Wire Road is closed near the intersection of McLean Chapel Church Road due to a pipe failure across the road.
