Law enforcement agencies in Harnett County are partnering to collect supplies to assist victims of storms in Florida. Items will be closed Friday, October 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Food Lion on the south side of Lillington, and through October 20 at the Food Lion in Angier. Additionally, drop off sites are located at the Harnett County Sheriff's Office in Lillington and at all municipal police departments throughout October. Items needed include cleaning supplies and laundry detergent; toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, mouth wash and hair brushes; dish detergent and non-perishable goods. Staff and volunteers with the Dunn Police Athletics League will deliver items to Florida. Monetary donations may be made to Dunn PAL (memo line "disaster relief" and mailed to P.O. Calling all local hunters! Did you know you can give back to the community by donating deer to feed the hungry? Guy & Judy Gardner have opened a donation site at 4503 Ross Road, Lillington, where hunters may drop off legally harvested deer during the fall hunting season. The deer will be processed locally and distributed to the Harnett Food Pantry in Lillington where it will be made available to hungry families in Harnett County. For more, go to

Harnett County residents who have overdue fines at the Harnett County Public Library can pay them this month with Halloween candy. No matter if you owe $2 or $30 in fines, candy donations will wipe them out. Sorry, candy cannot be used to pay for lost or damaged items. All bags of candy must be unopened with individually wrapped pieces. Individually packaged raisins, pretzels and cookies are great, too. The treats will be distributed to children attending Halloween library programs and trick-or-treaters visiting participating libraries on Oct. 31. Christian Light Road will be closed 500 feet north of Oakridge River Road today through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. due to a culvert replacement. The detour for this closure includes Oakridge River Road to N.C. 42 to Betts Road.
