Holmes County is located in the north central part of the State of Mississippi. It has both Delta and Hill lands. The fertile soils of the delta are on the west side of the county and the rolling hills on the eastern side. Holmes County was named in honor of David Holmes, the first governor of the State of Mississippi. Holmes County was founded in 1833 and is comprised of 764 square miles. As of the 2010 census, its population is 19,198. Holmes County is home to the Holmes Community College Bulldogs. It is also home to some of the best hunting and fishing anywhere!
