In a testament to the golden age of mom and pop stores, the Village, as it is affectionately referred to, is family owned and operated. The owner, Larry Gray, learned the tools of the trade as a young man working with his father in construction. He took that invaluable knowledge and applied it to running his business. Established in 1979, the Village is one of the few independent hardware stores left in the metropolitan area, and it started with a simple pledge:
