Ever wonder if you can really make a difference with everything going on in the world? Check out this story from our Modesto Umpqua store: “Our associate James saw a young man get bumped by a car while riding his bike through an intersection outside the store. He was a little shook up but fine overall. His bike, however, was un-rideable. It was his only mode of transportation and he was on his way to class at the local college. James gave the student a ride to class and offered to keep the bike at the store until he could come get it. But everyone in the store felt terrible about the situation and wished they could do more. Then they thought, ‘Well, why can’t we just buy him a new bike?’ When the student, named Daniel, came back into the store to get his wrecked bike, he didn’t even notice the new bike in the lobby. Everyone gathered around and told him how glad they were that he was OK and hoped that a new bike would cheer him up. Daniel was speechless! He asked us if the bike was really for him, staring at it in disbelief. He was overcome with emotion and started to cry. Of course, this prompted a lot of us, if not all of us, to shed a tear or two. Daniel expressed his gratitude, saying we were the greatest and gave us some hugs. He had a huge smile on his face.” Thanks to the Modesto team for showing the power of community and reminding us to never underestimate how you can make a big difference in anyone’s life.

Don’t forget to spring forward tonight. Yes, we lose an hour of sleep but more daylight = more sun!

When you're ready to slide into the weekend but then realize it's only Thursday. Don't worry: We're almost there (with Friday cookies in our stores to help!)
