Delectus, Latin for "ultimate choice", is a winery that believes in an ancient expression, "Finis coronat opus"...the result crowns the labor. Delectus owner and winemaker, Gerhard Reisacher, specifically elects to use fruit from steep, mountain vineyards. Such a choice provides us with only a tiny crop of small, concentrated grapes. That choice, however, allows our wines to be extremely deep and rich in color, aroma, and flavor. All of our wines undergo extended maceration, 22 months of barrel aging, and are unfined and unfiltered. This painstaking process allows the wine to be approachable early on so it can be enjoyed at this very moment, yet also have a longevity for our guests who prefer to cellar our wines and enjoy how they mature over time.
