Marilyn’s Dance Studio was started by Marilyn Buchman in September of 1965 in the basement of her South Laurel Street home. As the studio continued to grow, it moved to two spots on W. Main Street, until finally moving to its current location in the late 1970s.
When Marilyn passed away unexpectedly in August of 1982, her husband, Donald Buchman, asked Pam Heid to take over the studio. After a year, of running the studio, Donald sold the studio and house to Pam.
The name Marilyn’s Dance Studio stuck, in memory of Marilyn and her influence on Pam and her other former students. The June 2015 recital marked the 5oth Anniversary recital. In March 2016, Pam Heid died unexpectedly after suffering a stroke. Her husband Greg Heid has maintained the studio in Pam's memory and to allow Pam's dream of teaching children to dance to continue. The studio is now formally known as Marilyn's Dance Studio LLC. Pam loved working with children and adult students to teach them the art of dance. Her goal was to instill a love of dance in ALL students. Pam noted that "we aren't in the business of winning dance competitions or becoming professional dancers. Those things happen because our students love dance and want to further their dancing careers." Marilyn’s Dance students have performed on Broadway, in touring companies, and have become dance teachers.
