St Thomas Episcopal Church

Founded 1891 in Dupont Circle, St. Thomas' Parish is an inclusive, welcoming, and growing Episcopal congregation in the heart of Washington,

Since 1899, our members have been worshiping at 18th & Church Streets, first in a stately English Gothic building that was the church home of Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt, and, after the original building was destroyed by arson in 1970, in an adjacent parish house. In 2019, St. Thomas Parish completed its new home in a contemporary building to better serve the needs of its congregation's ministries and further serve the community.

St. Thomas' Parish has a strong music program with opportunities for participation by interested congregation members; supports education and formation opportunities for adults, youth, and children; and hosts community groups in its brand new facilities.

We are proud to be a founding parish for Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington.

St. Thomas' has a long, active legacy of involvement in the LGBT community in the District and throughout the Episcopal church. We were the first parish in the Diocese of Washington to develop a liturgy for the blessing of same-sex unions. Today we are part of the movement to bring full marriage rights to LGBT+ couples. Numerous couples in our parish have celebrated their marriages at St. Thomas' and remain active members.
