Utrecht Art Supplies is a trusted and respected art materials brand. Our products have been studio and classroom staples for decades, used and recommended by professional artists and educators worldwide.
The company began in 1949 when Utrecht's founders, the Brooklyn-born Gulamerian brothers, started importing fine linen canvas from Belgium. In the late 1950s, Utrecht developed its revolutionary Professional Acrylic Gesso, which worked with both oil- and water-based mediums, introducing unprecedented simplicity to the canvas preparation process. Following the success of the gesso, Utrecht developed the original line of Utrecht Artists' Acrylics — one of the first acrylic lines in the world. Utrecht Artists' Oils and Watercolors soon followed.
In recent years, we've expanded our paint offerings even further, introducing Utrecht Designers Gouache and relaunching our Artists' Watercolors in a broader assortment with larger tubes, new colors, and reformulated favorites.
Today, Utrecht continues to manufacture an extensive range of artists' colors and mediums produced by a team of skilled craftspeople, chemists, and artists. Many of these world-class art supplies are still handcrafted in Brooklyn, New York, using only the finest materials.
In April 2013, Utrecht became part of the Blick Art Materials family. In its third generation of family ownership, Blick is the largest and oldest provider of art supplies in the United States.
