The function of a Conservation District is to focus available technical, educational, and financial resources to meet the needs of the local landuser. SCCD has built a program based on this principle and provides a wide-range of services for the residents of Sheridan County, Wyoming.
Improving the water quality of local streams is an objective the SCCD considers in nearly every program or project that is implemented within Sheridan County. To address concerns with stream impairments, the SCCD offers cost-share assistance funding to landowners for water quality improvement projects on eligible waterbodies. Practices may include off-channel stockwater, fencing, septic system replacements, irrigation diversion upgrades, and stream stabilization.
SCCD also offers education and outreach programs to encourage the development of conservation practices, and a greater respect and appreciation for our natural resources in Sheridan County. These education programs include classroom visits, workshops, tours, demonstration projects, and annual publications.
From November to March 31th, SCCD's offers a Conservation Tree Program that provides low-cost seedling trees, along with equipment and technical assistance for conservation practices such as windbreaks, living snow fences, wildlife habitat, and erosion control.
Other programs include: - Used Oil Recycling Program in Dayton and Clearmont; - Watershed Assessments and Planning; - Subdivision Reviews & Land-Use Planning; - Rangeland Health Assessments; and - Waterjet Stinger for Planting Willow Cuttings.
