WHAT IS A CHEQUAMEGON?? To enthusiastic off road bicyclists from across the country, the annual trek to the Chequamegon (She-wa-me-gon) Fat Tire Festival sponsored by Trek means fat tire racing and fat tire fun. Each year in mid-September, thousands of fat tired fliers descend on the towns of Cable and Hayward in northwestern Wisconsin to take on the off road bicycle tests of endurance and agility offered during the Chequamegon Festival weekend.

Probably my favorite mountain bike race ever. Not that I was anywhere close to the front, but was great ride on the National Birkebeiner trail with thousands of other riders.
Be sure to eat regularly through the race. I bonked at about the 34th mile or so and had to scarf donuts for 10 minutes. Probably watched 200 riders go past.
