Shady Nook Care Center

Shady Nook Care Center is unique in that we are a third generation-owned facility. and Alta McMullen, laid the foundation for Shady Nook back in 1956. The huge catalpa trees surrounding the three-story white frame building inspired the name. Wilbur and Margaret McMullen, began to help out very soon thereafter, and shared ownership in 1972. Cheryl and Dan McMullen joined the business in 1980. Shady Nook Care Center is now in its third location at 36 Valley Drive, Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
You would have to look long and hard to find a long-term care facility that has been in continuous existence and run by the same family for over fifty years. Longevity alone, however, should not be the primary reason for choosing Shady Nook. The most important reason is that our team members are dedicated to providing excellent care with personal and professional attention.

Nursing: Shady Nook Care Center offers a wide range of nursing services based on each resident's needs. From 24-hour supervision to total assistance with all activities of daily living, our goal is to help each resident achieve maximum potential.

Memory Care: Shady Nook has 42 beds set aside for our Memory Care Units. These two units are designed to meet the needs of those residents, both high and low functioning, diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease or other forms of dementia. Specialized activities and programs are designed to aid each resident to maximize his or her potential and meet their wide range of needs.

Dietary Service: Delicious, well-balanced meals are prepared daily under the direction of our Dietary Manager and Licensed Dietitian Consultant. Therapeutic diets are also provided.

Therapy: Physical, Occupational and Speech therapies are provided by highly skilled, compassionate therapists. Our mission is to offer the highest level of rehabilitative care and to deliver those services in accordance with our founding principles of commitment, respect, and integrity. Our goal is to help each resident reach the highest level of functioning possible, as quickly as possible, and to give the resident the opportunity to safely return home.

Social Services & Activities: Our Social Services Department will assist with both admission and discharge planning. Support is also provided for personal and interpersonal issues.

Activities at Shady Nook are designed to encourage a variety or responses. Games that provide physical activity, projects that permit creative expression and mental acuity games and exercises all serve to promote a healthy sense of well being and accomplishment.

The spiritual component to life is recognized by Shady Nook staff. Opportunities abound for participation in various religious activities.
