HIT, Inc started on August 20th 1979. Don Braun, Harriet McFerran, Robert Licari, Cameron Clemens, Marion Cary, Erwin Reich, and James Kloster were busy establishing Housing, Industry, Training Incorporated - Now known as HIT, Inc.
These original board members represented the two local citizen groups of the Mandan ARC and the Bismarck/Mandan Association of the Handicapped, created HIT to provide exactly what the name housing, industry, and training opportunities for individuals with physical and/or developmental disabilities. HIT's first funded program, a federal Grant of $166,000 to start an independent living center was secured in 1980 and hired HIT's first employees.
