It's American Heart Month and a great time to talk about diabetes. Carbohydrates are a great source of energy for our bodies - but if you eat too many at one time, your blood glucose may get too high. If your blood glucose stays too high for too long, it can lead to serious health problems like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Be heart smart! Making healthy changes to control your risk factors, even if you already have heart disease, can make a big difference.

At the February meeting of the Mruk Family Education Center on Aging Better Breathers, the group celebrated its 20 year anniversary as an active support group. They are the longest meeting group in the state of Arkansas! BRMC congratulates these Better Breathers on 20 years of offering education, support and encouragement to those living with chronic lung disease. A big thanks to Karen Ezell, RRT, RPSGT, for her dedication to facilitating the group. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/BB_MFECOA.

It's American Heart Month, and it's a good time to know about the risk factors of heart disease. One of those is cholesterol, and when there is too much of this fatlike substance in your blood, it builds up in the walls of your arteries and increases your risk of developing heart disease. Know your total cholesterol, your LDL (bad) cholesterol, and your HDL (good) cholesterol, and triglycerides. Make an appointment to get your cholesterol checked today! Be heart smart! Making healthy changes to control your risk factors, even if you already have heart disease, can make a big difference. Learn more at www.hearttruth.gov.
