God gave a vision for establishing First Baptist Church, Pearl River to seven charter members. Organized on August 5, 1912, the new church began meeting at Pearl River Methodist Church.
Just one day after its establishment, many neighbors and friends met at the river's edge by an old pump house to baptize four new members. The church did not hesitate to "run with" their God-given vision and began the first building in August 1913.
Though the new congregation had to wait patiently and work purposefully for their vision to become reality, they finally dedicated their first building on September 5, 1920.
As First Baptist Church grew, it sent messengers to the Southern Baptist convention in Kansas City, Missouri, in March 1923. At this time, the church was invited to join the convention. One year later, the first three deacons met. Those elected were Enoch Blackwell, Ellis Crawford, and O. J. Smith.
The church membership kept increasing, and the need for a new sanctuary was evident. In 1962, First Baptist Church built and dedicated a new sanctuary. More additions to the church were made over the next 20 years to accommodate the growing membership and ministries provided.
After 100 years of growth and service, the church expanded once again and built a new sanctuary. First Baptist Church of Pearl River will continue to seek God's will and spread the message of salvation to the community and everywhere God leads.
