The weather this weekend will be nice and warm. Snow has mostly cleared away and the trails should be drying out. Come out and explore the Badlands this Presidents' Day weekend. Monday will be a free entrance day in honor of the holiday. Here are some before and after photos. The snow we had last week versus the weather today.

Did you know that a group of black footed ferrets is called a business? That’s just one interesting fact about these endangered animals. In 1987, only 18 were known to exist. With recovery efforts led by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, their numbers have dramatically increased. In the Midwest, Black-footed ferrets have been reintroduced in Badlands National Park and Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota. Learn more: Photo by Kimberly Tamkun, USFWS.

There are no groundhogs at Badlands National Park but our black-tailed prairie dogs, which are active all year long, saw their shadows today too. They will probably spend the next few days snuggled in their holes due to the storm rolling in to our area tonight.

Most of the road through the park is fairly clear, but due to snow drifting in the Pinnacles area, our Law Enforcement Rangers advise no travel on the stretch of road between Pinnacles overlook to Wall today. Rangers are already assisting people caught in deep snow. Thanks, and drive safe.
