This page was created to help Cache Creek spread information about animals available for adoption, fund raising efforts, up coming events and the need for volunteers. We may also do some cross posting for other rescues/shelters with animals in need. This is not the forum to discuss any issue that may arise or to bad mouth us or any other rescue. This type of behavior will not be tolerated, you will be blocked/banned from this page.

What about heartworm positive dogs?
Cache Creek Rescue prides itself on assisting with animals that other rescues may not be able to take, especially with costly treatments. If a dog is marked "Heartworm treated" then Cache Creek Rescue has already taken them for treatment. If marked "Heartworm positive" Cache Creek Rescue will pay for their heartworm treatment if adopted before the rescue can take them to be treated. Any further questions can be answered via message, phone call, or in person at the shelter.
Is this dog or cat good with other animals or kids?
This is a very common question and should always be asked about the animal in question. Any concerns we have seen in an animal's temperament is written on their kennel cards. With this being said, please Facebook message us, comment, come to the shelter, or call the shelter if this is a specific concern. Please keep in mind that if there are other dogs or kids in the household, Cache Creek Rescue ALWAYS recommends you bring them in for a meet and greet. Animals are like people in the sense of you can't guarantee that they will get along with everyone they meet. You may also request a dog to be cat tested and we will perform this test at the shelter and contact you with the results.
Is this dog housebroken?
A majority of our dogs come from kill shelters and usually aren't housebroken. We do have a few though who keep their cages clean and our animals usually are walked several times a day by volunteers so they understand the concept of being taken outside. If a puppy is 3 to 4 months old, they are not housebroken. Please keep in mind we are not at the shelter 24 hours a day so our animals usually have to go to the bathroom when we are away, which is a longer time frame then they should be left at home when adopted so its very difficult to potty train in a shelter environment.
How do I volunteer? What are the age requirements? Can I do community service at your location?
Pick a day when you would like to volunteer during our business hours. Come in and fill out the appropriate paperwork. A staff member will then walk you through the proper procedures in caring for our animals. Please pay attention to notes on kennel cards for the safety of our volunteers, staff, and other animals. If you have any questions, PLEASE ASK. Volunteers who are 12 and under, must have a parent with them at all times. Children over 12, can sign themselves in and out every time they come to volunteer, BUT need their parents/guardian to sign the initial volunteer form if under 18. Volunteers may come in anytime during business hours and for as long as they like but need to sign themselves in and out. If community service hours are needed, PLEASE tell the staff so we can sign you in and out and track your hours each time you come in. Cache Creek Rescue reserves the right to tell any volunteer to leave who we feel is not acting in the appropriate constructs of our volunteering guidelines or is a safety concern to staff or other animals.
Where can I find photos of your available animals?
Our most up to date album can be found on this Facebook page. Go to photos, click albums, and then select the album titled "Available animals." Keep in mind that photos of puppies or animals brought by transport the day before sometimes cannot be photographed right away so your best opportunity to see the new arrivals would be to go directly to the shelter or to a scheduled event. Most of our animals can also be viewed on Petfinder through our webpage as well. Please message us or call to ask if a specific animal is in Southern IL or New Lenox. A majority of them on Facebook are in New Lenox.
What are some of your available events and how can we help?
We always need help transporting animals and cages. Without that assistance, we cannot give these wonderful animals additional opportunities to find loving homes. Month to month events are posted on a dry erase board at the shelter as well as sign up sheets to help volunteer at the event. We also announce events a few days to a week before on Facebook. We also sometimes need volunteers to help transport food.
What do you need the most assistance with?
We need daily volunteer help to care for the animals as well as transportation to events. Donations of any kind are also very appreciated.
What do you need?

We also accept open bags of animal food as long as its not expired and properly stored, towels/blankets, etc. Items that are greatly needed immediately are announced on our Facebook page.
Thank you supporters for all your help! We can't save these animals without you! Any additional questions can be answered via Facebook messaging or with a phone call/visit to the shelter! Please spread the word about our amazing volunteer opportunities!
