Carpenter Ants
Black, ¼" to ½", some will have wings. Tunnels in wood (spits out wood) sometimes leaves sawdust visible. Does no eat wood, only tunnels in wood.

Termites
Small, blind, white, maggot-looking, found inside wood. Eats wood, leaves no sawdust. Winged swarmers, fly once or twice a year to find new homes to infest. Unless you see a swarm (looks like a big white cloud with hundreds or flying termites) or you are doing construction of some sort, you will not see a termite. Termites will not just be walking across your floor, that will be an Ant.

Cockroaches
Usually brown, lives mostly in kitchens and baths, but will eventually infest all rooms if left pests are brought in from somewhere and do not come from the ground like an Ant or Termite would.

Rodents (Mice, Rats.)
Like to live with people for food and shelter. Mice can fit thru a 1/4 of an inch hole and are noturnal. The loud noises you hear at night are usually mice. Rats are usually found in cities and near a bigger food source such as a dumpster. Both of these rodent cause many diseases. (salmonella poisoning and rat bite fever.)
