So you have a chronic health condition; find joy in spite of it.
We all know that life has its ups and downs, and its aches and pains. You twist just the wrong way weeding the garden, or taking out the trash, and get that pain in the back. A trip to the chiropractor, and in no time, you are back to your healthy self. But what happens if your normal changes?
We all know that life isn’t fair, especially when you get that news that life for you is going to be more complicated from here on out. You have a life changing condition that you will have to deal with on a daily basis. What now?
Be an educated consumer. Learn about your condition, read articles, talk to others who might have it. Remember, you can’t believe everything you see on the internet, so make sure you go to trusted sources. Talk to your doctor and your chiropractor to become an active participant in your on-going care. If you don’t know something, ask. It’s your body, your life.
If you need to, take a little time to grieve for the “normal” that you aren’t anymore, that’s okay, just don’t stay in that place. Start looking for ways to find your joy, in spite of the cards your body has dealt you. Know your limitations, but don’t let your limitations control you. Cherish old friends, and find some new ones. Maybe discover a new hobby you have always wanted to try, a book you wanted to read, or try one of those adult coloring books that are all the rage. Maybe you can be the caring ear for someone else having problems.
You’ll have good days, bad days, and even worse days. You will have days when you just need to take care of yourself. Do it. You will have friends, and maybe even relatives, who won’t understand. You will also have friends who will always be there, and family members who love you. Cherish them because they are golden.
When all is said and done, you are the one who gets to decide how you deal with the good days and the bad. Every day is a gift, whether or not you like the package it comes in.
Live. Love. Laugh.
