FAQs:

Why can’t I put glass in my bin?
Glass will shatter in the compactor trucks that collect your recycling. When that happens, the glass sticks in the other products and makes them less valuable to recyclers as well as reduces their ultimate end use. BUT, glass is infinitely recyclable. This means it can be recycled over and over and is one of the few products that can be fully recycled locally. The best option is to take it to a collection point.

Can I put a pizza box in my recycling bin?
YES. The catch is that it should be as clean as possible. This means that it should not have a lot of cheese and sauce stuck to it. Simply separate the top from the bottom (so the recyclers can see that it is clean). Hint ~ even if the bottom of the box is messy, the top might be clean enough. Just tear it off and put it in the bin.

Should I remove the labels from my cans and plastic?
No. For the most part, labels are not a problem.

Do I need to rinse my containers?
Yes. This should not take more than a few seconds. A good rule; if you turn it upside down, does it drip? If so, it needs some cleaning. The exception; peanut butter. Try putting the jar in the dishwasher with your next load. Or give it to the dog. Many dogs like to lick the peanut butter from the jar.

Does this stuff really get recycled?
YES. The material in your recycling container is collected and taken to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) where it is sorted, baled and sold on the open market. Various end users purchase this material just as they would any raw material and process it into many different products. Recycling makes a difference!

What do I do with plastic grocery bags?
Plastic bags are best recycled through the collection containers in many grocery stores. This ensures that bags do not cause problems in the recycling of other products in the general, curbside recycling process. *Even better; use reusable bags!* According to the Wall Street Journal, the goes through 100 billion bags annually estimated cost to retailers, $4 Billion. That cost gets passed on to their customers.
