A commitment to the preaching and teaching of the Historic Christian Gospel, the conviction that all Church members should be actively engaged in some area of Christian service, dedication to unity and harmony in the fellowship and a firm belief that pastors should be loved and held in the highest esteem were among the most important principles of the group of believers numbering less than fifty which established Immanuel Baptist Church in June 1967. Meeting initially in the Michaels Building on West Church Street, the Church soon affiliated with the Franklin Baptist Association, the Illinois Baptist State Association and the Southern Baptist Convention. Steady growth in membership made the purchase of property and the building of the first worship center and education building at 516 North Main Street both needed and possible. Since moving to that location in 1969, the Church has been continually blessed with increasing membership and expanded ministries. The present worship center was dedicated in 1984 and extensively remodeled in 2001. Between those building projects came the remodeling of the first worship center into a fellowship area and education center and the construction of an additional education building with a new worship center entrance, offices and a family life center. The foundational principles of the charter members remain highly regarded by the Church to present day.
