2 Timothy 2:3, "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." Today we celebrate Memorial Day! It is a day to remember those men and women who gave their lives for God, country and freedom. What an unselfish act ! Very hard to believe and harder still to think that these brave souls died so that we could be a free nation! They didn't quit when times were tough! In the face of every enemy they stood strong and proud and gave their best! They gave themselves! Paul encouraged Timothy to be a good soldier for Christ. With all the love I have in my heart I have to say the church has to many soldiers AWOL (Absent WithOut Leave). Many sign up to be in the service of the King but hardly ever get into active duty. Don't attend church regularly. Don't attend Sunday School. Don't read the Bible. Don't pray except when calling on God for help! If they are indeed Christians they are in the Secret Service! As soldiers of the Cross we need to be bold, strong, ready for combat at a moments notice. The battle for the souls of men is waging around us every moment of every day! I encourage all of you to remember those who fought for our freedom then remember Jesus who died to purchase our freedom THEN get in the battle! Bro. Danny

James 3:11, "Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?" James, the brother of Jesus, in his letter writes about showing a difference in behavior after becoming a believer. He contrasts hearers versus doers, faith without works versus faith with works and good words versus bad words. This morning we just look at words. Do you know people who blow off harsh hot language? Sometimes without warning they just POP off like cork from a shook up bottle. They may use the excuse that they act just like their parent or parents. They might say it is a result of where and who they hung around. Others say...well I am a red head! (No offense to red haired people.) James would say that doesn't fly! Some believe that James only became a believer in Christ after the ascension. I wonder if James spoke harsh, hot, ugly words about his brother Jesus? Maybe he did and after he believed he repented of that sin. So he writes to encourage us to control our tongues! A harsh word can do tremendous damage to a person, family, community or church. James writes that ships have a helm to control them, horses have bits and bridles to control them and we, after being saved, should control our tongues. My Mamaw used to say "What's in the well comes up in the bucket." Hmm. Fill your bucket with the sweet word of God daily and frequently so that when you open your mouth to speak no one will have reason to question your faith. Bro. Danny

Proverbs 15: 23, "A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word [spoken] in due season, how good [it is]!" All around us we see hurting, broken people. Someone you know has had a loved one to die recently. Or maybe you know someone who has a broken heart because of a wayward child. Maybe some parents are sad because their child just graduated high school and will soon be moving out and on to college. It could be two long time friends have had a quarrel and are not speaking to one another. Maybe you know someone who sits by themselves, alone and is in deep depression. Listen! Your words of encouragement could be the very thing they need today! If you have fed on the sweet word of God you should have a head and heart full of joyful wonderful encouraging words to say to someone. They need to hear them said and you need to speak them. Proverbs 25:11 says, "A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold and pictures of silver." Please, go speak light and life into someone's life today. They are waiting on your call. Bro. Danny
