The Sunshine School History
Sunshine School began in 1964 under the sponsorship of the Searcy Junior Auxiliary. Beginning with seven special education students attending on a half-day basis, school was held in a converted army barracks on land leased from Searcy Public Schools.
In 1973, the Board of Directors received state and federal grants and contributions for the building of the facility on Sowell Street which the school occupied through the 2010-2011 school year.
The Sunshine School is now in its new building at 901 Airport Loop, Searcy, AR. It is a wonderful facility with new classrooms, therapy rooms, offices, lunch room, and more. There is still money to raise in order to completely pay for the new building. Anyone interested in donating may contact the school at (501) 268-9227.
