Parents and Guardians of Audubon MS/HS, The Audubon Community School’s Middle and High School staff is planning a day of Community Improvement and Celebration for the last day of school- May 26. Our students did a great job on many things this year and we want to celebrate their achievements on the Iowa Assessments in particular. We also want to make the community that supports us look and feel a bit better as a thank you. Students should wear work/play clothes and plan to be outside for most of the day. Hats and sunscreen would be a great idea. Our plan is: 8:18- Run a shortened schedule so kids can turn in checkout sheets, turn in books, wrap up last minute class details, and the 7-11 band can practice for Memorial Day. 9:35- Community Improvement: 5th & 6th graders will clean up their section of Hwy. 71. Ten staff members will accompany them. Rubber gloves will be provided. 7th graders will clean up the bike trail from Audubon to Nathanial Hamlin Park or further. Eight Staff members and County Conservation will accompany. Gloves provided. 8th graders will wash fire trucks, paint picnic tables, and garden at the city square. Staff and firemen will accompany. 9th grade will work on school grounds projects. Staff will supervise 10th grade will assist American Legion personnel in preparing cemetery for Memorial Day. Staff will supervise. 11th grade will read to and play with kids at the Children’s nest, and do gardening (bring work gloves) at the Friendship Home. Their staffs and school staff will supervise. 11:30- All students will be bused to Littlefield for a picnic lunch of hamburgers (grilled by the Beef Producers), chips, fruit, vegetable, and drink. Student lunch accounts will be charged for those present and eating. After lunch to 1:30- Enjoy the activities available at Littlefield (kayaking, trails, sand volleyball, basketball, fishing, relaxing, frisbee, and maybe more) 1:30- Head back to school 2:15 Dismissal Students with un-served detentions and specific incomplete work will not attend the Picnic/Celebration activities at Littlefield. They will have lunch at school. These students will be notified prior to Friday.
