The CPM Educational Program was begun in 1989 when a group of mathematics teachers and university faculty received an Eisenhower Grant to write a core high-school mathematics curriculum that would allow more students to learn more mathematics and to learn it at a deeper level. Twenty years later, CPM is a thriving non-profit that provides intensive professional development to teachers and publishes comprehensive, standards-aligned textbooks ranging from 6th grade through calculus that have been adopted by several hundred schools across the nation as well as scattered sites overseas.
As CPM firmly believes in quality professional development for teachers as an essential part of its mission to improve mathematics instruction, CPM opens its workshops at no cost to everyone who could benefit from its work: from teachers and administrators to ELL educators and student teachers. This academic year workshops are being held in eighteen states and Hong Kong and we expect the number of teachers who participate in these professional development workshops to exceed the 1800 teachers who took part last year. CPM teachers, current and retired, lead the seven days of workshops that begin in the summer and continue during the school year.
