WHLP-AM was established as a country radio station on November 16, 1955 in Centerville, Tennessee, serving Hickman, Lewis and Perry counties. WIKA-FM was added in July 1974 at 3,000 watts. WHLP-AM increased it's wattage from 1,000 to 5,000 watts in May 1980. The call signs were modified to WNKX AM/FM in August 1991. WNKX-FM increased power to 6,000 watts in 1996. WNKX FM Radio Station was purchased by Steve and Wanda Turner in 1997 as Hickman County Broadcasting Company, Inc. Steve Turner continues to own the station.
