Founded in 1889, the Grange has long been a champion of the residents of rural Washington. We are always working to protect agricultural interests, water rights, rural electrification, high speed communications for rural areas, rural schools and hospitals and so much more. The Grange was responsible for the blanket primary, and when that was tossed by the Supreme Court in 2000, it was the Grange that crafted Initiative 872. The voters passed it with 60 percent of the vote and, after a fight that went all the way to the highest court in the land, you can now vote for whoever you wish on the primary ballot.
The backbone of the organization is made up of the hundreds of community (or subordinate) Granges statewide. It is their grassroots work, including community service, local government involvement and much more, that has kept the Grange going strong for more than a century.
