ArchitecTours 2017 Spotlight - Toro Canyon Residence by Barton Myers FAIA Check out this amazing project and more on the AIA Santa Barbara ArchitecTours on October 7th "The idyllic setting in Toro Canyon co-exists with the very real hazard of living in a wildfire zone, in a canyon that hasn’t burned in more than 50 years. When Myers bought these 40 acres 20 years ago, he designed this home to be resistant to both fire and erosion and to take full advantage of the naturally beautiful canyon surroundings." - Sarah Sinclair, Independent Click below to read the SB Independent's article on Toro Canyon from last week! http://www.independent.com/news/2017/sep/06/steel-home-illustrates-living-water-architects-tou/ Click here to purchase tickets to ArchitecTours 2017 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/architectours-2017-living-with-water-tickets-35974629084

AIA Santa Barbara shared Santa Barbara Contractors Association's event.
You are invited to the ADU discussion with a State Senator, August 11th 10am-12pm at the New Vic Theater. This event provides an amazing opportunity to get involved with local policy issues and get your voice heard!
Please note due to the popularity of the event we have changed locations from the Gebhard Room to the New Vic in order to accomodate everyone who wants to come! Senate Bill No. 1069 came into effect on January 1, 2017 and provides for the creation of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in single-family and multifamily residential zones throughout the State of California. Local jurisdictions statewide are currently in the process of writing zoning ordinances to shape the application of ADUs within their purview. California Senator Bob Wieckowski is the author of the Bill and will come to Santa Barbara to give background on the Land Use legislation and the intent behind it. The goal is to assist in the local thinking about the law and how to move forward from our current housing deficit. This event will be especially interesting for writers of local City zoning ordinances, property owners, architects, planners, contractors and the real estate/ development community. Jointly organized by the Santa Barbara AIA (American Institute of Architects) and SBCA (Santa Barbara Contractor's Association), we invite you to join us. Attendance is limited to 80 people, so please follow the link to RSVP (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/adu-discussion-with-senator-bob-wieckowski-in-santa-barbara-tickets-35827403729) Special thanks to Kitchell Custom Homes, our sponsor for this event, and to The New Vic.
