A J Thomas Medical Clinic
The West Oakland Health Council was established in 1968 by Community activists, organized and supported by four dedicated West Oakland African American women, to meet the needs of the low income and largely African American community of West Oakland who lacked affordable, accessible, culturally responsive and high quality health care services. Today, WOHC services have expanded to five locations and include primary medical care (general medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and pediatrics), dentistry, optometry, mental health care for adults and children, substance abuse recovery services, and ancillary support, including pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, health education, social services, and the nutritional supplement program. The Council provides services to approximately 10,000 patients each year, through over 36,000 annual clinic patient visits.
