Kussmaul Gallery

Kussmaul Gallery was established in 1989, as a small boutique, in the former Granville Times building. The space boasted exposed brick walls, hand hewn timber beams, and a cathedral ceiling. Known for expressive gallery openings, the locale afforded unique display opportunities for advancing artists, but soon growth of the picture framing business, and the increase in the hand-made American Crafts, became the focus of the gallery.

1995 brought the end of an era when The Granville Times Book Cellar closed their doors, and the beginning of an era for Kussmaul Gallery, relocating to occupy the entire Granville Times building. An extensive remodel transformed the edifice into the distinctive place that became Kussmaul Gallery. Since that opening day, the gallery has continually grown and taken different directions, becoming Granville's premier retail destination. Kussmaul Gallery is the longest standing retail business in Granville with original proprietor, and this concept of longevity carries over to our artists, and their quality conscious creations.

With a background in administration and social services, Jenifer joined Kussmaul Gallery in 1996. As a young girl, the influence from a professional artist and family friend helped guide her to a fashion merchandising major in college, and eventually to co-ownership of the Kussmaul Gallery. Her talents in merchandising design create the signature visual motifs that identify Kussmaul Gallery. Relationships with artists and representatives from around the world help Jenifer continue to offer an unrivaled selection of sterling silver jewelry and hand-made objects.

James founded the original gallery space in 1989 as a way to display the abundant paintings he created daily in his studio adjacent to the gallery. His other experiences as sign painter, designer, and picture framer, have all merged to create his present position as resident artist at Kussmaul Gallery.

Since 1995, his focus has been on his professional career as a landscape, and barn painter. Working from studios located on their farm, and in the gallery building, he creates his signature paintings in oil. His work is currently represented exclusively by Kussmaul Gallery. His work is also featured in several retail stores nationwide. Paintings can be viewed online at www.jamesyoungartist.com.
