THE REAL DEAL: Plattekill Bike Park Celebrates its 24th Season
Plattekill Bike Park opened its doors in 1995 and as many know, became the first-ever lift-assist Mountain Bike Park to open on the East Coast. Since then, Plattekill has become the benchmark for the new and recently created mountain biking facilities popping up everywhere.
From the likes of Lars Tribus, Kyle Ebbett, Aaron Chase, to Neko Mulally these world class legendary riders all cut their teeth learning to ride the east coast most extreme gravity terrain.
There was a lot of controversy about banning mountain biking in public parks. So back in 1995 when many resorts shut down for their winter season Laszlo Vajtay had another idea. Driven by the industry passion to offer a customers first access mountain biking was born. At the time was the only resort supporting the gravity cycling community.
From a sparse network of hand built trials and the existing chairlift history was born. Plattekill also knew to grow the love and the heart of the sport events must be front and center. Taking on many of this regions first official downhill mountain biking competitive events.
Hosting such event’s at their traditional volunteer driven “Trail Maintenance Day”, Pro GRT, Gravity East Finals, Plattekill continues to support, develop, and pioneer the gravity park business as we know it.
