Our philosophy stems from honoring the dog. This means respecting them as dogs, not people, and recognizing that as canines, they have their own way of interpreting and interacting with the world. Our dogs are not wolves, coyotes, foxes, or any other species of wild dog, and their behavior – while characterized by some similarities – is not comparable to these species. As their human leaders, it’s our responsibility to step into their world and truly learn to understand them.
“Dogenality” and DNA are also aspects contributing to a dog’s overall being. A dog’s DNA may explain some of their innate instincts and traits, but individual traits, temperament, and other characteristics comprise what we call their Dogenality. Is the dog high-energy or low-energy? Confident or more fearful? What are their natural drives and what is their willingness to please? These are the components that come together to determine exactly who a dog is.
Satisfying a dog’s DNA and Dogenality is an important component to nurturing a happy, fulfilled, balanced dog. Natural Dog Behavior revolves around doing so by growing the right relationship between dog and human. This is not about teaching obedience commands nor is it a cookie-cutter technique. Though helpful, commands don’t address more fundamental questions about a dog’s mindset, how they see you and other humans, your role in the pack, and other vital building blocks to a healthy dog-human relationship. Rather, it is a philosophy designed to educate you to be the teacher and leader that your dog always dreamed you would be.
