The Sportsmen's Alliance began working on a national basis in 1978. The organization was formed in response to an Ohio Ballot issue in 1977 that proposed a constitutional amendment to ban all trapping in the State.
Sportsmen's Alliance works to defend hunting, fishing, trapping and scientific wildlife management against lawsuits, legislation and ballot issues initiated by anti-hunters.
Supporters include: sportsmen’s conservation organizations comprising million hunters, anglers, and trappers, as well as individual sportsmen, businesses, and philanthropic foundations in all 50 states and other nations.
