The Utah Department of Corrections oversees two prisons, the Utah State Prison in Draper and the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison. There are approximately 6,200 state inmates incarcerated in Utah. The Department also contracts with approximately 20 county jails, using their empty beds to house state inmates while the Department picks up ancillary costs such as medical treatment and transportation.

Adult Probation & Parole is part of the Department and supervises offenders living in our communities while on probation or parole.

Through AP&P, Corrections operates Community Correctional Centers (halfway houses) and a Parole Violator Center (a halfway-back to prison house for parolees in violation of terms of their parole condition).

The Department's other operations include:
— Clinical Services Bureau, which oversees and provides medical care to inmates;

— Utah Correctional Industries, which employs inmates who produce certain goods and services for the state while getting job training;

— a Training Academy that prepares new recruits to serve in the Department and other law enforcement agencies as well as in-service training for current officers and agents.

— An in-house investigative wing called the Law Enforcement Bureau, which conducts internal investigations and monitors county jails.
